How BetweenBells works, and how it compares to local Facebook pages

By BetweenBells ·

BetweenBells is a local booking site for everyday help: cleaning, gardening, handyman jobs, pet care, ironing, and errands around Alexandra, Clyde, and Cromwell. You find a local provider, send a request, agree a price, and pay through the site, with the payment held until you confirm the job is done. The main difference from asking on a community Facebook page is that the booking, the price, and the payment all happen in one place, and the reviews come only from completed jobs rather than from comments. If you have used a buy-sell or community page to find a cleaner before, this will feel familiar, with the back-and-forth and the paying sorted out for you.

How booking works

There are 3 steps. First, pick a service and your area, and browse the local providers listed. Second, send a request to the one you like, telling them what you need; they reply with a fixed price for the job, so there is no bidding and no thread of guesses. Third, you pay through the site once you have agreed, and the payment is held until you confirm the work is done.

You do not need an account to send a request. If you make one, your bookings are saved in one place and your details fill in next time.

What it costs

Browsing and sending a request are free. When you book, a 10 percent service fee is added on top of the provider's price; the provider keeps the full amount they quoted. Payment is held securely and released to the provider once you confirm the job is done, so nobody is chasing a bank transfer. You can see the fee in full before you commit.

What makes booking here safer than a Facebook ask

The difference is in what happens around the job: the money, the trust, and the record.

  • Payment is held securely until you confirm the job is done. You are not sending cash up front or chasing a bank transfer afterwards, and the provider knows the money is there before they start.
  • Every provider passes an identity check before they can take bookings, so the person who turns up is who they say they are.
  • Reviews come only from completed bookings, so you are reading from people who actually hired that provider, not comments on a post.
  • The price is fixed and agreed before the work starts, and the whole booking stays in one place to find again.

Community pages still have their place

Buy-sell and community pages are free and a common way to find local help, and for a quick favour they do the job. For paid work you want done properly, a booking handles the price, the payment, and the record in a way a comment thread cannot, which matters most for anything you are paying for or might book again.
